"You were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your body"
(1 Corinthians 6:20).
Keep my commandments
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command”(John 14:15).
The first qualification to be the son and daughter of Jesus is to remember God's commandments. For keeping the commandments is loving Jesus.
The Ten Commandments is the most perfect and important criterion of righteousness.
The second qualification is love.
The Bible said, “God is love”(1 John 4:8). God made Jesus the only begotten Son die on the cross in order to save us.
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another”(1 John 4:11).
“A new command I give you: Love one another”(John 13:34).
Jesus said that the surest way to become His disciple is love.
“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”(John 13:35).
Loving God and men is the very way to be the disciple of Jesus.
Let's put it into practice.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth”(1 John 3:18).
The third qualification is faith in Jesus.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”(Hebrews 11:1).
What is the truth that we must believe in?
1) Jesus is the Son of God.
2) Jesus died on the cross, so He pardoned our sins.
3) Jesus was resurrected and ascended to heaven, and will come again to take us to heaven.
4) We shall live eternally in the new heaven and new earth.
Many people do not believe this. That's because, they say, they cannot see. But Faith is the hope of things that can’t be seen.
Let's turn on the radio. We can hear news through radio from all over the world.
Let's read the newspaper. An Antarctic exploration pictures and news from foreign countries are printed abundantly there. Do you believe in those things? People believe that a broadcasting station and a newspaper office report only the facts.
But the Bible teaches us more exact facts than they do.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him”(Hebrew 11:6).
True faith is not only to trust but also to do what we believe in.
“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by acting, is dead”(James 2:17).
The fourth qualification is the fruit of life.
A vine bears grapes and an apple tree bears apples. Jesus said about the fruit of life, pointing to trees.
“By their fruit you will recognize them.... Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire”(Matthew 7:16-19).
We are like trees bearing fruit.
A man whose heart is good will bear a good fruit; man whose heart is bad will bear bad fruit. Then what is a good fruit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithful new, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law"(Galatians 5:22, 23).
These nine qualities are all good. If we have only one of these nine elements, how wonderful it would be! On the other hand what is a bad fruit? It is envy, complaining, anger, jealousy, and chaos.
What sort of fruit do you want to bear? Let's pray to Jesus to make us bear good fruit.
The fifth qualification is obedience.
Have you ever seen a shepherd take care of his flock? A shepherd wanders mountains and fields with a flock of sheep that follow him.
They never move on their own accord.
Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd"(John 10:11).
David sang, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want"(Psalms 23:1).
Jesus leads us to a green pastures and beside still waters. And He leads us to the way of righteousness.
If we follow Jesus, there is no fear. For Jesus is our true shepherd.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me”(Psalms 23:4).
In order to be the true disciples of Jesus, we must obey Jesus like sheep that follow a shepherd.
“I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart"(Psalms 40:8).
Whom does our body belong to?
"You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body"(1 Corinthians 6:20).
Our body is Jesus'. Why?
We were sold to Jesus like a slave who became the property of a man who paid for him. When Jesus died on the cross, He bought us with His blood. All people belong to Jesus. If we entrust our body to Jesus, He will protect us.
We should take care of our bodies carefully while we live in this world. Let's live always health consciously we don’t get sick.
The Bible also said, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple"(1 Corinthians 3:16, 17).
In ancient times Daniel and his three friends rejected the food that the king gave them. And they said to the steward “Let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink." They were given foods which God forbidden, so they asked for other foods. God made them be superior to the others in physical strength and wisdom (refer to Daniel chapter 1).
Let's take care of our bodies and be careful with food like Daniel and his friends.
"So whether you eat of drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God"(1 Corinthians 10:31).
God always says, "Dear friends, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well"(3 John 1:2).
God gave our bodies to us, so we must value them.
We should do our best lest we should be sick, especially we should avoid harmful things like tobacco or wine. Wine urges us to do bad things.
Liquor makes our nerves paralyzed and makes us have a dim discernment and unable to think clearly. Our body's functions become dull and weakened. Why does it have such influences on us?
It is because alcohol has a poison that is harmful to our nerves. If person drinks continuously, he is poisoned by it and cannot live without it. And finally he will die of a disease.
"Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler, whoever is led astray by them is not wise"(Proverbs 20:1).
God calls a drunkard an unwise man.
And He said, "Do not gaze at wine...”(Proverbs 23:31).
"Nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunker nor slanderer nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"(1Corinthians 6:10).
Tobacco is very bad too.
When you see an adult smoking, do you think, "I will smoke in the future, too?"
You must not do so. Tobacco is as terrible a poison as alcohol.
It has many kinds of poisons along with the nicotine, in the tobacco. If we gave one or two drops of it to a dog, it would die immediately. A rabbit would die if we gave it only a quarter of a drop.
Tobacco makes all our actions and mind dull, and it can also cause lung cancer. About 80 % of honored students don't smoke cigarettes. A man who doesn't smoke cigarettes has a clear mind, so he can learn better.
I hope all of you can decide not to smoke and drink when you become adults.
